GLOBALISATION AND CROSS CULTURAL PRODUCT DESIGN INTERNATIONAL DESIGN CONFERENCE
Keywords: globalization, cross-culture design, cultural dimensions

Cross-Cultural Product Design is becoming more necessary, typically in globalization time. It reflected ethnic-cultural variation in different functionality, different ways people use them. Moreover, the amount of cultural diversity reflect the differences between products and product forms. However, there are many conflicting of ethnic-cultural variation with the uniformity principle of mass-production. Therefore, we care about the impact of cultural dimensions on the experience and interaction between people and products. From there, product designers are facing to various issues. They often must develop a product which will be used in one culture (context) to another cultural environment. It creates a question is "‘global’ or ‘local’ featured design of products". Therefore, these things has become significant for design education and make it more serious. It requires the focus of designers on the interaction with the material world. There are a lot of studies about cross-culture design, cultural dimensions such as rice cooker, MP3-Player, Public furnishing, E-Commerce web-sites [1].

The important thing is cross-cultural product design has increased its value and interest in many researches and education programs of many faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at Delft University [2].

There are 7 areas regarding cultural diversity and product design [3].

> The aspects design process (methodology, procedures).
> Design education (transfer of design knowledge among other cultures).
> Strategic (business strategy and marketing products in other cultures) and designers (cultural influence on the designer himself) form together the practical group.
> The aspects aesthetics (preference for design in different cultures).
> Semantics (interpretation of design and function) and human-product interaction (the actual use of products in different cultures) form together the theoretical group.

Lecture
The Economics of Happiness (2011)
Economic globalization made a massive expansion in the scale, power of banking, big business. However, it has negative side, it also created almost problems that we are facing now such as: climate chaos and species extinction; fundamentalism and ethnic conflict; financial instability and unemployment.

While life is becoming increasingly stressful, the Economics of Happiness which is shown through a short film, describes a world moving simultaneously in two opposing directions. On the one hand, alliances government and big business keep promoting globalization and company power. On the other hand, people all over the world are resisting those policies. They required a re-regulation of trade and finance, they dreamed about a very different future where meets more demand human scale with ecological economies base on a new paradigm an economics of localization.

The Economics of Happiness provides not only inspiration, but practical solutions. There are benefits from biological diversity, communities and local economies worldwide. With the believe that we can not only to heal the earth but also to get happiness back. The Economics of Happiness challenges us to restore our believe in humanity and the capacity of building a better world.

Tutorial
We also discuss about how the globalization affects on society as well as directly on daily life. Typically in Australia where we are living. Discovering more the issues by breaking down some examples about the types of huge cars and trucks that we are using and we often see in Australia which are belong to Toyota, Holden,... They came from other countries like Japan, America, Europe, and more.

We also made the discussion about how COVID -19 influences on our life. For instant, it actually changes our shopping habit. It prevents us from learning and working out of home. We had meet all those change and many difficulties. From there, we can think about all the products and design stuffs, they are also impacted by COVID-19. People temporary stop using some products which they have to go far away to buy. And many products are not enough to supply for people because of small storing.
